The Arid Zone Artists, Shane Gehlert, Kym Hart and Howard Steer, Formed in 1996, where after their inaugural meeting in a back shed over a few beers, the group was born. The purpose of the group, was to bring a comradery, to a usually solo profession and to bring the work of talented artists, living in the isolated Australian
outback, to the regional and city centres. Since these humble beginnings, the boys have gone from strength to strength, exhibiting together all around Australia, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and regional centres. The three artists have such a diversity in their work, perhaps that's why their exhibitions are so unique. Many of the exhibitions have been involved
with charities and the Arid Zone Artists have donated many thousands of dollars to such institutions. The Arid Zone Artists have also painted several murals thier most recent on a $20 million dollar canvas, a SAAB 340 aircraft of Kendall Airlines. They have also covered such diverse canvases as: The 16 ft long "Green Poles", An old soapbox for celebrity radio announcer John
laws, a door prize (complete with knob and hinges), A Jar of "buggerall" for the then Liberal leader Tim Fischer and a HQ Holden hubcap, for the Premier of NSW . In 2001, Kym Hart, moved away to the Gold coast, in 2002, Shane also moved to Queenland, thus separating the group which had successfully run for six years.
